Administered by the Weatherization Trust, Inc. since the early 1970’s, the Douglas County Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) enables low-income families in the Greater Douglas County Region to reduce their energy bills by making their homes more energy efficient.
Thanks to funding from the Federal Department of Energy, the State of Nebraska and Public Utilities, the Weatherization Trust, Inc. will weatherize over 1,100 homes in Douglas County this year. The energy conservation resulting from these efforts of state and local agencies helps our country reduce its dependence on foreign oil and decreases the cost of energy for families in need while improving the health and safety of their homes. Families receiving weatherization services see their annual energy bills reduced by an average of about $437, depending on fuel prices. Because the energy improvements that make up weatherization services are long lived, the savings add up over time to substantial benefits for weatherization clients, their communities, and the nation as a whole.
Based on available funding, if you meet the income requirements and are approved for weatherization assistance services in Nebraska, your home will be evaluated to identify the most effective energy and dollar saving improvements which can be made. The amount of money that can be spent on each home is limited, so all of the improvements listed may not be made in each home.
